I wanted to learn about Facebook and Twitter so I joined them and got involved. I now moderate a couple of Facebook groups and am an active participant on several pages. I have set up Facebook business pages for some of my customers. I developed a Facebook application linked to my Footy Rocks website just to see what could be done using Facebook's developer tools. I added Facebook Connect to my Activate! CMS software to see how that works (very well btw).
I simply cannot believe some of the rubbish people are being told about how to be big in "social media"! What's worse, some of the expectations being set are outlandish. Often these people have no idea what exactly Digg, Reddit, Mashable, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and all the other social media sites are for and what their key differences are.
Advice from me is advice from somebody who is using these tools every day.
